After 16 years of providing a Christian-based education to primary-school aged children in Callaway County, Kingdom Christian Academy is adding a high school program.
School board president Mike Wilson, who also serves as chairman of the high school committee, said that starting with ninth-grade courses next year, Kingdom Christian High School will add a grade level every year until it becomes a full, four-year program. He did say that if there was enough interest, school directors would consider expanding sooner.
Wilson said the school is hosting an open house and information session at 6:30 p.m. on March 27 for parents of prospective students.
"We've based our curriculum on the state requirements for college prepatory (programs)," Wilson said.
Courses of study will include core subjects such as English, math, science and history as well as electives such as foreign languages, physical education, health, music and art appreciation. The curriculum also will include comprehensive Bible study.
"It's college prep - a student who graduates from KCHS will be ready for college," said Preston Thompson, a member of the high school committee. "Our goal once we have (a full high school) is to meet every state expectation, if not exceed them.
"Anywhere they go, (our students) are going to be able to succeed, and that's really the core of what KCA is all about."
Wilson agreed, adding that, "Our three main goals are academic excellence, learning Christian values with Christian peers and a thorough understanding of the Bible, and student development."
