Spring cleaning is a time-honored tradition that for the past 11 years in Fulton has meant picking up the streets as well as the rooms of local homes.
The 12th annual Fulton Pride Day is April 14, with individuals and groups set to pick up trash throughout the city starting at 9 a.m. in Veterans Park.
Last year's event drew 524 volunteers - a record - and Darin Wernig, the city's public information officer, said city officials are hoping to have at least as many show up this year.
"It's just a great opportunity to do a community service, clean up trash around town and make Fulton a prettier place to live and to be," Wernig said. "We know keeping the city looking clean and beautiful leaves a positive impression with visitors."
Team leaders will report to the amphitheater in Veterans Park at 9 a.m. to pick up trash bags, gloves, maps and T-shirts provided by the city. Groups of volunteers will spend the morning picking up litter and waste, which will be left in bags to be collected by park maintenance crews later.
Once the cleaning is done, the city will provide a lunch of hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and ice cream in Veterans Park starting at 11 a.m.
