Street Fair donates fireworks for country club July 4th celebration

Fireworks explode over downtown Fulton during the 2010 Fulton Street Fair. After this year's fireworks show was cancelled due to weather, the Fulton Street Fair Committee decided to donate its unused fireworks to the Fulton Country Club for its annual 4th of July display.

Thanks to a boost from the Fulton Street Fair, the Fulton Country Club's annual 4th of July fireworks display is going to be bigger and better than ever this year.

The Fulton Street Fair Committee announced Monday that it was donating its 2012 fireworks display - which they were unable to set off due to weather - to the country club for inclusion in its annual holiday display.

"The committee talked at length about what to do with the display," Megan Barnes, 2012 Fulton Street Fair chairperson, said in a press release. "Since the country club and the street fair use the same company to put on the fireworks show we thought it would be easy to enhance the country club's community display."

Tom Harris, the street fair's treasurer and marketing chair, added in an interview Monday that the committee felt since the display was already paid for it decided, "let's just reinvest in the community, let's just do it."

According to the press release, the Fulton City Council - which sponsored half of the street fair display this year - also agreed that this would be a good use of the fireworks.

Dale LaRue, who has coordinated the country club display for at least 15 years, said the addition will provide a nice boost to what he already had planned.

"I'm gonna say this is going to be the biggest show ever, with over $6,000-worth of fireworks being shot off," LaRue said, noting how the street fair's weather cancellation has been turned into a positive after all. "It's a way everyone (still) gets to enjoy the display.

"It's going to be the biggest and best one we've ever had."
