June 24th, 2012 in News

A New Bloomfield father and son were taken to the Callaway County Jail early Saturday on matching counts of resisting arrest and assault of a law enforcement officer after deputies served a warrant for the father's arrest.

Deputies with the Callaway County Sheriff's Office arrived at an address on State Road Y at approximately 6 a.m. to arrest William Kirk on a warrant for a weapons violation from the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms. Kirk's son, Ryan Kirk, immediately interfered with that attempt.

"Dad was hiding and the son initially denied he was there," Sheriff Dennis Crane said. "But (the deputies) noticed two individuals hiding under a truck. One of them was William Kirk."

According to a press release from the sheriff's office, Ryan Kirk, "allegedly interfered with the arrest of William and assaulted a deputy" and then resisted arrest himself when he attempted to run away.

The release further states that while a deputy was dealing with Ryan Kirk, William Kirk - whom Crane said was armed with a knife - "allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted the other deputy."

Ryan Kirk, 18, was arrested on suspicion of felony interfering with arrest, felony resisting arrest and assault of a law enforcement officer.

William Kirk, 36, was arrested on the ATF warrant for a weapons violation and suspicion of felony resisting arrest and assault of a law enforcement officer.
