City worker injured Thursday

A City of Fulton employee is hospitalized in Columbia after being injured on the job Thursday morning.

Director of Administration Bill Johnson said Alex Salmons - an electric lineman who has worked for the city since 2005 - was working to repair damage at one of the city's substations when he received the electrical burns. The substation had been the source of a power outage Wednesday night.

"We got power restored by rerouting it through a different direction," Johnson said. "When they went to repair the substation this morning, that is when the injury occurred."

Johnson said Salmons was severely burned on his right hand and arm, but the injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

"He is at University Hospital in Columbia in the burn unit," he said.
