UW meets 2012 goal

After months of worry about falling short of their funding commitments for 2012, officials with the Callaway County United Way have announced that they have reached their campaign goal of $260,000.

Those monies will be used to fund 14 selected agencies throughout 2012, including SERVE, Inc., CARDV, Kingdom Projects, Our House: Helping Callaway's Homeless, the Callaway County YMCA and CMCA-HeadStart.

"It was a tough year," acknowledged United Way board president Glenn Harris. "Our campaign had slowed down and we had to come up with other ways to raise the money.

"Our board is an active group and we came together to get it done, and the community - as always - stepped up to the plate for United Way."

Executive Director Kathy Richey Liddle said there were a number of contributions made recently to help boost the organization to its fundraising goal.

"Luckily that all added up, and we made our goal," Richey Liddle said.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
