Auxvasse formally regulates water, shops for new well site

The City Council here passed an ordinance to regulate the use of public water at their city council meeting Tuesday evening.

The council passed Bill No. 80-2012, which put it on the books

"We didn't have anything in writing about what you can and can't do, which caused problems," said south ward alderman Terry Walker. "We had people who would shut off the valve to their rentals, which is illegal. Now we've got something on paper for people to see."

Water was a major topic of discussion throughout the meeting. As the city moves forward with the first phase of its Water System Improvements Project, north ward alderwoman Stephanie Leverett presented a preliminary report on buildings for city council to consider as new well locations.

Walker said that the old landfill building was their original choice for the site, but it might cause problems with contamination, so they were taking other locations into account.

In other business, the city also recognized Moriah Crisp, a North Callaway student who developed a new logo for the city after Auxvasse officials contacted the school.
