Auxvasse adopts county hazard mitigation plan

In their meeting Tuesday, the Auxvasse City Council formally adopted the Callaway County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan, rendering the city eligible for Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) funds during weather events such as flooding or extreme snow.

The county's plan outlines several safety precautions, resources and mitigation strategies for communities to adopt, which in turn makes them FEMA compliant for natural disasters.

Areas identified in the county's mitigation plan specifically regarding Auxvasse include continuing to encourage cooperative agreements between water providers and fire districts, maintaining alternate power supplies for fueling emergency vehicles and establishing formal agreements with appropriate shelter locations for people in hazard situations.
