This spring, the North Callaway Strategic Planning Committee conducted a scatter poll of its patrons to determine what their primary concerns and priorities are for their school district.
In coming weeks, the district will use that information to conduct a more broad survey of parents, students, faculty and alumni as to their expectations and goals for the North Callaway R-I Schools.
"It's all designed to help us evaluate where we are according to the goals identified by our patrons," said board member Jenny Bondurant. "It's important to the school board that we are answering the needs of the district."
She said the surveys outline the district's goals and indicators - as stated by the patrons already solicited for their input.
According to a report from the planning committee, those preliminary interviews yielded two major categories for North Callaway R-I patrons: To maintain and enhance high academic standards, rigor and expectations; and to create and maintain a quality learning environment.
Parents who were interviewed said they wanted the district to challenge all students to fulfill their potential, create individualized student focus, use effective parent-teacher communication and to retain quality teachers.
Patrons also said they wanted the district to make class size, maintaining quality facilities, keeping up with technology and keeping the community engaged priorities.
Bondurant said the district plans to have the surveys based on those initial interviews ready by the time registration starts in early August, with both print and online versions available.
