Fewer big trees in newer subdivisions east of U.S. 54 may explain the lack of reports of big broken limbs in the street in the wake of a sudden storm Saturday afternoon in Holts Summit.
Carolyn Maxey, who lives in the Lake Park Subdivision in Holts Summit, said Thursday city officials were mistaken if they thought all of the wind in Saturday's storm was confined to the west side of U.S. 54 in Holts Summit.
"I live on the east side of highway 54. We also had extremely high winds that caused damage," Maxey said.
Holts Summit Street Superintendent Mark Tate said Tuesday "there was no damage at all in Holts Summit east of U.S. 54." He said street crews after storms only clear debris found in the streets.
Maxey said she believes the reason city crews were not called to clear limbs from the streets in her subdivision east of U.S. 54 is that "this is a fairly new subdivision and the trees here are not very big and don't have big limbs to break off."
