Workmen from Kauffman & Sons Excavating of Jefferson City Monday blocked off Court Street just south of 7th Street to begin work on replacing century-old city sewer lines along the street. The work is scheduled to be completed in a few weeks. This summer the street will be repaved where the sewer line replacement work will occur.

Tracked backhoe excavation equipment Monday blocked off Court Street south of 7th Street to begin digging up century-old city sewer lines.

From 7th Street north to 10th Street, crews from Kauffman & Sons Excavation of Jefferson City soon will be pounding the concrete apart and digging up sewer lines along Court Street.

City Engineer Greg Hayes said on Monday crews from the construction company were planning the project and sawing concrete.

He said crews are scheduled to begin excavation work soon.

The Court Street project, Hayes said, will cost the city $136,000 to lay new main sewer lines and create new connections to 47 service outlets between 7th Street and10th Street.

During the construction work, there will be periodic street closures and traffic delays for the next few weeks until the construction work is completed.
