The Callaway County Public Library is looking to broaden horizons for area children next week when it hosts its seventh annual Lunar New Year celebration on Jan. 25.
Callaway youth ages 5 and up are encouraged to come to the library from 4-5 p.m. for stories, arts and crafts and activities designed to teach them about the lunar calendar which is followed by many Asian countries, including China and Korea. According to the lunar calendar, 2012 is the Year of the Dragon.
"We're going to share some stories and do a couple craft activities," said children's librarian Jerilyn Hahn. "We're going to make our own (paper) dragons that breathe fire, we're going to make tangrams - a square made of puzzle shapes - and we'll do a bean bag toss and feed the dragon."
