Flower fundraiser benefits Our House

With an unseasonably mild winter nearly over and spring almost in the air, Our House: Caring for Callaway's Homeless has launched a new fundraiser designed to help brighten both local gardens and the lives of the individuals and families they serve.

Flower Power Fundraising offers gardening enthusiasts the chance to stock their gardens with a variety of several bulbs and plants ranging from lilies and dahlias to freesias and wildflowers while also supporting a local cause - in this case, Our House. Fifty percent of every order placed on Our House's Flower Power Fundraising page between now and April 27 goes to Our House.

"I just saw some things about it through the catalog I get because my wife and I are into gardening," said Our House Executive Director Brad Sheppard, noting he was impressed that Our House would be receiving 50 percent of the sales. "You probably pay a little more than you would in a store, but when you realize it helps people in our community, it's worth it.

"I'm interested to see how it goes -- we've had a few orders already."

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
