Boulware to bring "flavor of North Callaway' to Supper

February 21st, 2012 in News

The Rooster Creek Boys perform at the 106th Kingdom of Callaway Supper in 2011. This year's event is on March 13 on the William Woods University campus. Tickets are $15 and are available at The Callaway Bank, United Security Bank, Bank Star One, Crane's Country Store and the Short Stop at Millersburg.

Mike Boulware, president of the 107th Kingdom of Callaway Supper, said one of his favorite aspects of the annual event is the opportunity for residents of various parts of the county to come together and learn a bit more about one another.

His plan for this year's supper - to be held March 13 on the William Woods University campus - is to "give (attendees) a flavor of North Callaway."

"It's kind of fun when you're eating over there and you get all mixed together, sitting with people from the opposite side of the county, somebody you recognize but don't know," Boulware said. "It gives you a flavor of each community."

Boulware noted that as he is the first North Callaway High School graduate to be named president - Boulware was a member of the first freshman class at the school - his guest of honor (to be named at a later date) also is a North Callaway graduate, and entertainment will be provided by the contemporary band from the Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church from Hatton. The program also will feature pictures and drawings of some of the old buildings and architecture in Hatton.

"It's kind of a North Callaway year," he said.

That focus on the people who make up the community is what longtime Kingdom Supper Committee member Dale LaRue said makes the event so special.

"I don't know of anybody that honors one of their own like this," LaRue said. "That's pretty unique, and people really appreciate that."
