After almost two years, Finally Tammy's on Court Street was forced to close its doors recently. Owners Tammy and Jeff Manion said the business simply had become too expensive to continue.

After almost two years of serving up daily specials like homemade lasagna, fried chicken and hamburgers and satisfying local sweet teeth with homemade pie and a smile, the owners of Finally Tammy's have been forced to close their doors for financial reasons.

"We can't get ahead. Between taxes and utilities - our utility bill is higher than our rent payment - we just can't keep up," owner Jeff Manion said. "It's just too hard to make it work."

When he and his wife, Tammy Manion, first opened the restaurant - formerly Mom's Cafe - on the corner of Court and Fifth streets in March 2010, it was the achievement of Tammy's lifelong dream to own her own eatery. After 20 years of working as a waitress at Mom's Cafe, Tammy Manion told The Fulton Sun, "now the business is finally mine."

Unfortunately, Jeff Manion said, the couple simply could not afford to continue to keep that dream going. Finally Tammy's was included in a recently-released list of 36 Callaway County businesses that were delinquent in paying collected sales taxes or employee income tax withholdings.

"It's too much work, and not enough money coming in," Manion said. "Times are hard and between taxes and utilities, all of our profits were gone."
