A parole absconder from Auxvasse gave the Callaway County Sheriff's Office a late Christmas present when he turned himself in early Friday morning.
Joseph B. Wyatt, 24, walked in to the sheriff's office at approximately 5 a.m. - one week after it was reported that he had been seen in the area and may have been involved in an automobile accident near North Callaway High School.
Sgt. Clay Chism said Wyatt called the sheriff's office after seeing media coverage regarding his wanted status.
"A deputy had been in telephone contact with him during the last week, and had made arrangements (for Wyatt) to turn himself in," Chism said.
A warrant had been issued for Wyatt's arrest on Sept. 24 after he failed to appear at a hearing on Sept. 20 on an original charge of third degree assault.
According to a CCSO release, Wyatt was taken into custody at the Callaway County Jail Friday morning, where he is being held without bond on a parole absconder warrant and a warrant for failure to appear on the assault charge.
