New Bloomfield schools to update crisis plan

Intruder training also to be offered

The New Bloomfield R-3 School District Board of Education has decided to update the school's crisis management plan and provide intruder training for teachers.

Superintendent David Tramel said the Dec. 14 shooting incident in Connecticut prompted him to organize an effort to update the school's crisis management plan.

Tramel said key school personnel will be involved in an immediate effort to update the school's current crisis management plan.

Tramel said Chris Powell, an employee of Safe Plans, a national firm that designs and offers specialized intruder training, has volunteered to help the district update its crisis management plan.

Powell attended the Board of Education meeting and said he would do everything possible to make sure the district has the best possible crisis plan and training. Powell is a resident of the New Bloomfield school district and will have children attending school at New Bloomfield. He also is a graduate of New Bloomfield High School.
