In an attempt to help curb the county's stray cat population with a steady stream of income, the Callaway County Humane Society is introducing the Guardian Angel Program Dec. 22 with a promotion hosted at Well Read, Fulton's downtown bookstore.
Members can pledge $20 a month or give a lump sum of $240 for the year to become a Guardian Angel, with those paying for the year upfront receiving an annual CCHS membership for free. Pledges will also receive a commemorative p
Humane Society President Sandy Corbet said that each $20 donation would help spay or neuter one cat in Callaway.
"We decided to do (the program) now because we're getting ready to kick off a big spay and neuter campaign in February and March, and we want to get people to sponsor some cats," said Corbet. "We're really going to target the bigger feral cat colonies around town, and a lot of people in the county with a lot of strays."
