Fulton's second of three Mexican restaurants will soon leave town for Kirksville.
El Vaquero, the restaurant off Bluff and Market streets that opened June of last year, will close at the end of this month, citing poor business.
"The business here was great when we opened for about three or four months, to be honest," said Angel Rodriguez, nephew of owner Teli Lopez. "Then little by little it just declined."
Rodriguez said that much of El Vaquero's clientele were local college students, so summers were typically slower for business. The opening of El Patron in September, making the third Mexican restaurant in Fulton along with longtime staple Jalisco, was the final deciding factor.
"Jalisco has been here for a while and nobody's going to take their business, but with a new one opening we're going to be splitting what Jalisco doesn't have," he said.
