Cox Gallery to host second high school exhibit and contest

Budding high school artists will have another chance to professionally showcase their hard work when the Mildred M. Cox Gallery's second Emerging Talent High School Art Show kicks off Jan. 16 to Feb. 1.

The show is open to all high school students interested in participating, who may submit up to four pieces of work in any medium for $10 per student by Jan. 9. The work will be put on display and judged by professional artists for cash prizes, including a $1,000 William Woods University scholarship for Best of Show.

Cox Gallery coordinator Jennifer Sain said she started last year's gallery, which closely mirrors what professional artists would experience showcasing their work, as an educational experience for students.

"Part of the reason I want to put on these shows is I want students to have this kind of experience so they understand," said Sain. "(Sometimes) when they see that there's a competitive show, they don't really understand the art-specific language. It's educational."
