WWU to grant first doctorate degrees on Friday

On Friday history will be made at William Woods University when the university awards its first two doctorate degrees.

The degrees will be conferred during a 7 p.m. ceremony Friday at Cutlip Auditorium.

The recipients will be Amy James, who is the principal of the Southern Boone Elementary

School at Ashland and a former principal at North Callaway Elementary School at Kingdom City, and Julie Dill, who is the superintendent of Johnson County R-7 School District in Crest Ridge near Warrensburg.

Both started to work on their doctorates in educational leadership in August of 2010.

The Higher Learning Commission, which is part of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, accredits WWW for the doctorate program. It is one of six regional organizations offering institutional degree accreditation in the United States.

William Woods University has been offering master's degree programs since 1993. It added an education specialist program in 2003.
