MILLERSBURG - Bricks made of egg cartons, towers made of paper towel rolls, chandeliers made out of earrings, a doily as a rug; Sarah and Richard Klingbeil of Treasure Hill World of Dollhouse Miniatures can find a use for almost anything when they are putting together one of their creations.
As Sarah Klingbeil led a tour through the Treasure Hill collection, she said the couple started their small business - where they sell dollhouses they have refurbished as well as all the supplies necessary for someone to get started on their own project - almost by accident while still living in Rolla.
"It was a fluke. We'd been in the restaurant business and the motel business, and then the motel sold and we needed something to do," Klingbeil said. "We opened a consignment shop and were doing lunch, and I added some dollhouse things."
She said the business grew from there until the couple was focusing solely on the dollhouse miniatures.
Both Klingbeils said it was the creative freedom of working with miniatures that appealed to them.
"I just like making something, it's satisfying. I like that you get to use your imagination, and you're creating things," Sarah Klingbeil said.
