T-Birds target Cardinals' win streak

The North Callaway Thunderbirds have no time to dwell, so they've wadded up their disappointment, discarded it and moved on.

Coming off a disheartening 27-13 home loss to South Callaway in last week's season opener, North Callaway must quickly regroup when it travels to Tipton tonight for a demanding test against the state-ranked Cardinals (1-0). The Thunderbirds - who were ranked No. 8 in the Class 2 preseason poll - dropped out of this week's state rankings.

"The first thing you do is come in Monday morning and get their minds right, and realize, "Here's the mistakes you made, learn from them and start preparing for the next game,'" North Callaway head coach Mike Emmons said Wednesday morning. "One game doesn't make or break your season.

"... We're challenging (the players) and putting a lot of pressure on them to execute like they're supposed to, and they've responded well."

Due to the forecast of heavy rain in the mid-Missouri area as remnants of Hurricane Isaac, the start time for tonight's game has been pushed up an hour and a half. Kickoff is now scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
