Auxvasse Elementary School is hosting a health fair from noon until 7 p.m. on Sept. 13, and is inviting area residents to come find out what kinds of services they have access to.
"It's a great way of educating the community about resources available to them, especially with the economy the way it is," Principal Susan McNeal said, noting that her district has a number of residents who have lost jobs.
Informational booths will be set up in the school gym, with highlights of the event to include free physicals, free massages, family counseling and a station where individuals can get help with resumes and interview preparation.
"We have a ton of booths - they keep coming in. We've been fortunate that we've gotten donations and support from the community," McNeal said. "We've got mental health counseling, body wraps, the United Way, the YMCA is coming, Experience Works, Health Care USA, Westminster College and University of Missouri Extension, we'll have a dentist there with toothbrushes for the kids, we'll have someone to show them how to prepare a healthy snack, someone to show them how to wash their hands properly."
She said the school will be doing its annual health checks for students that night as well.
