Foundation to give $10K in October

August 22nd, 2012 in News

With student achievement increasing despite tight budgets, community support for the New Bloomfield School District continues to build.

Support is coming from a variety of school-oriented organizations. They include the newly formed New Bloomfield Education Foundation, the Athletic Boosters, and the Parent-Teachers Association.

The Education Foundation includes alumni and others interested in supporting the school. This fall the foundation will announce $10,000 in classroom grants to teachers who go above and beyond to help students.

The Parent-Teachers Association donated $6,000 toward improvements to the playground at the New Bloomfield Elementary School.

The Athletic Boosters held a tournament in July and cleared a profit of $8,300. LeeAnn Craighead said the tournament was the organization's most profitable event. The Boosters met this month and approved a new $2,400 scoreboard for the softball field at the school. The Boosters also will complete the gymnasium scoreboard project by adding LED lights in the gymnasium. The Boosters also contributed $3,100 toward the new girls basketball uniforms. They also have contributed $3,400 toward requests from coaches for various projects, including $500 toward a new outfit for the Wildcat mascot, as well as helmets, basketballs and even a load of red dirt for the baseball field.

"We were able to do much more than we have been able to do in the past, and still leave about $1,000 as a cushion for some need that might arise during the school year," Craighead said.

The Athletic Boosters also plan two banquets this year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
