Fulton Colleges Fund to offer 24 scholarships

Goal is $48,000 for local colleges

The Fulton Colleges Fund has collected $46,000 in donations toward its $48,000 goal to provide 24 scholarships to Callaway County students enrolling at either Westminster College or William Woods University.

Matt Gowin of Fulton, president of the Board of Associates for the Fulton Colleges Fund, said the effort to solicit donations started last Tuesday with a kickoff breakfast at William Woods University.

"At that event we had 65 volunteers who were organized into 12 teams. For the rest of the week, they solicited contributions to the Fulton Colleges Fund. We are happy to report that collections and pledges now total $46,000," Gowin said.

The volunteer effort attracted individual donors and many contributions from businesses as well. He estimated there were from 250 to 300 donations made during the last week.

The lead donation announced last week came from Roger Moser of Moser's Supermarkets of Fulton, who pledged $2,500 as the lead gift.
