Mokane Bar to host ride for Honor Flight

Mokane Bar to host ride for Honor Flight

August 8th, 2012 in News

New Mokane Bar and Grill owner Mel Atterberry is hoping to draw 1,000 bikers to his bar on Sept. 8 in support of a good cause: Central Missouri Honor Flight.

Atterberry is hosting a poker run to benefit the local program which sends veterans - with an emphasis, currently, on those who served during World War II - to Washington D.C. to see their memorial.

"When I bought the bar several months ago, I decided I wanted to do something to help," said Atterberry.

Registration starts at 10 a.m., with the ride expected to start at noon and run until 5 p.m. Players will start at the bar in Mokane and make stops at VFW Post 2657 and the Post Office Bar and Grill in Fulton, Panhead Billy's in Kingdom City, the Dixie Roadhouse in Millersburg and Woody's Bar and Grill in Ashland.

"I'm looking forward to seeing how many bikes we can get down here. The goal is to get 1,000 bikers, which would be the biggest gathering in this area," Atterberry said. "We're trying to raise about $15,000 and just send as many (veterans) as we can while they're still around."
