Tom Hartman has been appointed by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission as its senior resident inspector of nuclear facilities at the Callaway Energy Center, which is about 10 miles southeast of Fulton.
Ameren Missouri operates a nuclear power plant to generate electricity at the Callaway Energy Center.
"Tom Hartman's background and experience will assist the NRC in carrying out its mission of protecting people and the environment and ensuring the safe operation of nuclear power plants," said Elmo E. Collins, NRC Region 4 administrator.
Each U.S. commercial nuclear power plant site has at least two permanent NRC resident inspectors who monitor closely all operations at the plant in behalf of the NRC.
"They serve as the agency's eyes and ears at the facility, conducting inspections and monitoring significant work projects," Collins said.
Hartman joins NRC resident inspector Zach Hollcraft at the Callaway nuclear plant as the other full-time NRC inspector. Both of the permanent NRC resident inspectors at the Callaway nuclear facility can be reached at 573-676-3181.
