MARSHFIELD - The Fulton Hornets golf team found the slimmest of margins to still feel like a wide gulf.
Fulton came in third with a 343 total in Wednesday's Class 3, District 5 championships at Marshfield Country Club, missing out on qualifying as a team for next week's sectional meet by a mere 2 strokes.
Bolivar captured the district team title with a 339. Nevada followed in second place with a 341, fending off the Hornets for a chance to advance.
As it was, Fulton qualified three golfers for the Sectional 3 championships. Sophomore Kory Masek finished in a four-way tie for fifth with an 81, while junior Justin Vann shot an 83 to end up in a two-way tie for ninth. Junior Josh King finished in a three-way tie for 11th with an 84.
