Mayor misses Prayer Breakfast due to illness

The Fulton Mayor's Prayer Breakfast was missing one key component Thursday morning: Mayor LeRoy Benton.

Deputy Mayor Lowe Cannell stepped into the role of host for the breakfast, informing those in attendance that Benton was too ill to attend.

"I got a call from LeRoy last night. He said, "Hey Lowe, I've got a favor to ask. I'm feeling sick to my stomach and have all day - I need you to sub for me tomorrow,'" Cannell told the audience, emphasizing Benton's disappointment at not being able to attend himself. "That's when I started to feel sick to my stomach."

Joking aside, Cannell said it was an honor to host the prayer breakfast in Benton's stead.

"It's great to see the community come together and recognize that Christianity is important to our community ... we want to recognize (that God) is the true leader," he said.
