Students, community can seek spiritualty during Holy Week at Westminster

Westminster Student, Erna Hrncic, fills out a paper cross with a spiritual message to celebrate Holy Week at Westminster College.

As Easter Sunday is just days away, Westminster College celebrates Holy Week; a time in which Christians commemorate Jesus' journey to Jerusalem, his last week on Earth, his Crucifixion, and resurrection.

Leading the celebration during her first year as Westminster's Director of Spiritual Life & Chaplain, Rev. Jamie Haskins said "For Christians, Holy Week is a way that we can participate in the devine journey that Jesus took."

Graduating from Vanderbilt in 2009 and then being ordained in 2012, Haskins has set up several events in the R&R Space, which is located on the third floor of Reeves Library. Both Westminster students and residents of Fulton are welcome to observe the stations of the cross during library hours as well as partake in interactive opportunities for worship and spiritual reflections.

Specifically for Westminster students, the Service of Remembrance will be held at 8 p.m. Thurday in CSC 126. During this special service students will celebrate those who have passed away as well as remember Jesus' and the last supper he shared with his Disciples.

On Easter Sunday, Westminster students will be provided transportation to worship at St. Peter Catholic Church. While not all Westminster students share similar beliefs, students wishing to attend a Protestant service have been encouraged to at attend one of the two services held at First Presbyterian Church, either at 8:30 or 10:45 a.m.
