EMS to make flu shot mandatory for workers

Keeping in mind employee health and patient safety, the Callaway County Ambulance District Board of Directors agreed to the creation of a new policy that would require all district employees to receive the flu vaccination.

The policy was a joint recommendation from CCAD Director Charles Anderson and Medical Director James Stevermer during Tuesday night's regular board meeting.

"The primary reason for that is for safety not only for the work force, but for our patients," Anderson said. "(Employees) can easily be carriers (of the flu) for several days before they show symptoms, and can pass it on to patients.

"Vaccinations are helpful in slowing the spread of this particular disease."

Board member Bryan Albaugh asked what the consequences would be if an employee refused to get the flu shot.
