Employee child care policies clash at Callaway Courthouse

September 21st, 2011 in News

Callaway County Clerk Denise Hubbard Tuesday holds her 2-month-old daughter Rachel at her office in the Callaway County Courthouse. Hubbard has adopted a policy in her office that allows her to bring her child to work with her each day. The Callaway County Commission is expected today to adopt a human resources policy that prohibits the practice, setting up a possible confrontation between the two elected county offices.

A confrontation looms today between Callaway County Clerk Denise Hubbard and members of the Callaway County Commission. They disagree on a personnel policy of allowing mothers to bring their newborn children to work.

Since mid-July Hubbard has been bringing her child Rachel, who was born July 9, to work each day.

Hubbard said the two employees in her office are supportive of her decision and the child has not disrupted the office.

But members of the Callaway County Commission decided to ask Hubbard last week to stop bringing the child to work, citing professionalism and liability issues.
