Callaway sheriff's office continues progress in homicide, burglary cases

Although there were no developments to report Saturday afternoon, Callaway County Sheriff Dennis Crane said there continues to be progress made in investigations into the recent homicides of Michael and Amanda Wieberg in Auxvasse and Deborah Bates in Millersburg.

"The Wieberg case continues to move in a forward direction," Crane said. "In the Bates Case, we had run out of leads, but we got a couple of tips that came in Thursday that we're looking into."

The bodies of Michael Wieberg, 56, and his daughter, Amanda Wieberg, 33, were found in the remains of a suspected arson fire at Michael Wieberg's home near Auxvasse on Sept. 2. Because of the condition of the body, Amanda Wieberg has not been officially confirmed as the second victim in that homicide, but she was supposed to be at her father's home that night, and has not been in contact with friends or family since, and officials are proceeding on the assumption that it is her.
