No. 9 Bulldogs build masterful defense

The South Callaway Bulldogs' defense is gaining its share of notoriety, and head coach Tim Rulo's billfold is taking the hit.

State-ranked South Callaway's defense posted its first shutout of the season last week, a 28-0 triumph at North Callaway in the annual Callaway Cup matchup. The undefeated Bulldogs - still No. 9 in Class 2 this week - will look to build off that effort tonight when they travel to Cuba. Kickoff is at 7.

South Callaway's satisfying reward for last week's shutout was something sweet. Rulo happily doled out the cash Wednesday night to purchase Zero candy bars for all 70 players on the Bulldogs' roster.

"It just proves that a shutout doesn't just happen with the 11 guys on the field, a shutout happens with all those guys working hard in practice and working hard during scout team," Rulo said. "That allows those 11 or 15 or 17 guys who actually played in the game to get that shutout to occur.
