Fulton schools consider early notification incentive

As the district's ever-tightening budget continues to be a concern - particularly for the 2012 and 2013 school years - the Fulton School Board is contemplating a move that might make financial planning for those years a bit easier.

During the board's regular meeting Wednesday night, Superintendent Jacque Cowherd presented members with a proposal to offer an incentive to teachers that give the district early notification if they do not plan to return to Fulton Public Schools next year. Eligible teaching staff at Step 20 (the number of years completed within the district; new teachers with prior experience can come in at up to Step 10) or higher on the salary schedule who notify the district by Dec. 16, 2011, will receive an incentive payment of $4,872.
