Though it has been 10 years since the events on 9/11 shook the country, several events took place around Callaway that showed the community's patriotic spirit remains.

Several churches in the county held services Sunday commemorating the 9/11 victims. United Methodist churches across the state decided to each try and do something special for 9/11.

After Court Street United Methodist Church had its special service from 9/11 a.m. Sunday at the church, members had a day of remembrance and service starting at 11:30 a.m. at Veterans Park. As the Community Organizations Active in Disaster coalition's "Safe Sunday" correlated with 9/11 this year, the church provided information on how to keep families safe in cases of emergency. There was also a free bicycle inspection station available and live music was provided by the church's praise band.
