JEFFERSON CITY - Junior Jenny McCarty directed the Fulton Lady Hornets cross country team with a 17th-place individual finish in the large-school division at Saturday's season-opening Jim Marshall Invitational.

McCarty - who took second place at the Class 2 state championships in 2010 - recorded a time of 23 minutes, 2.76 seconds Saturday on the 5-kilometer course. The Fulton girls did not have enough runners to field a complete team.

Also placing for the Lady Hornets were senior Kelly Oldani, 40th in 26:08.46, and sophomore Angela Hinchie - 52nd in 31:09.77.

Placing for Fulton in the boys' large-school division were freshman Eli Alcorn, 64th in 24:42.61; senior Brian Crosby, 65th in 25:04.74, and sophomore Keegan Stone, 66th in 26:08.41. The Hornets also did not have enough runners to field a complete team.

Due to the sweltering heat Saturday, the junior varsity races were cancelled. According to Fulton head coach George Yates, numerous runners from different schools required medical attention because of the conditions.

Both Fulton teams are scheduled to compete in the University of Central Missouri Mule Run at 5:30 p.m. Friday in Warrensburg.
