Ladybirds bring stop to three-game slide with Bowling Green victory

BOWLING GREEN - The North Callaway Ladybirds softball team halted a three-game losing skid with a 9-6 non-conference victory over Bowling Green on Thursday night.

With the win, North Callaway improved to 2-4 and dropped Bowling Green to 3-6.

Junior pitcher Brynn McGrath started for the Ladybirds but gave way to sophomore Jaida Gray after Bowling Green erupted for six runs in the third inning. Gray improved to 2-2 with the win, throwing four scoreless innings while scattering two hits and issuing two walks.

Junior infielder Sarah LaPlante went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs, one of four North Callaway players with at least two hits. McGrath was also 2-for-4 with an RBI. Junior catcher Jaynie Coffman had two hits and sophomore designated player Kelsey Coil was 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

North Callaway (0-5) lost the junior varsity game 9-1.

The Ladybirds open Mid-Missouri Conference play at Hallsville at 5 p.m. Tuesday.
