The Nixon Administration has cut state scholarships to Missouri students under the Access Missouri and Bright Flight programs.
This year recipients of these scholarships will receive only the bare minimums allowed by state law.
Leroy Wade, assistant commissioner for financial aid at the Missouri Department of Higher Education, said Wednesday the governor has withheld part of the funds appropriated by the Missouri General Assembly for both scholarship programs.
Nixon has cut more than $170 million from the 2012 budget. The governor said it is partly to cover the cost for disaster recovery. Those state budget cuts by Nixon included reductions in aid to colleges and universities, student scholarships and school busing.
