Thunderbirds pull out title in 2OT thriller

KINGDOM CITY - The North Callaway Thunderbirds' regular season kicked off with an 0-3 whimper out of the gates. But it's continuing with a thunder and some championship hardware.

North Callaway senior wingback Ty Webster scored on a 1-yard touchdown run in the second overtime to vault North Callaway past the Southern Boone Eagles 38-32 for the Class 3, District 6 championship on Thursday night.

North Callaway won for the fifth time in a row and its sixth time in seven games to end the regular season. With the win, the Thunderbirds avenged a 32-13 loss to the Eagles in last year's district title game at Ashland.

North Callaway, winning its first district title since 2004, awaits the loser of the Class 3, District 5 title game between Orchard Farm and Bowling Green tonight. The Thunderbirds host a Class 3 sectional game at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
