The Fulton Hornets volleyball team bested Mexico for the second time in four days, beating the Bulldogs in straight sets in the quarterfinals of the Class 3, District 9 play at Roger D. Davis Gymnasium on Monday. The Lady Hornets downed No. 7 seeded Mexico by scores of 25-16 and 25-7.
Junior defensive specialist Billie Klutts had three aces and two digs, senior middle blocker Corri Hamilton had five digs and two blocks and sophomore middle blocker Kendall Love had a block.
Fulton, the No. 2 seed, improved to 17-13-2 on the year and await North Central Missouri Conference foe Kirksville in Wednesday's semifinal.
The Lady Hornets were 2-1 against the Tigers in the regular season.
"Luckily, we have the home-court advantage and they have a 2-hour drive but I think it'll come down to who is tougher mentally," Fulton head coach Megan Youse said.
No. 3 seed Kirksville beat the No. 7 seed Southern Boone 25-16 and 25-9 on Monday night. Fulton and Kirksville play at 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
