Mother, daughter help "make over' Joplin

When the cast and crew of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition descended upon Joplin this past week to start the popular television show's project to build seven houses in seven days in the tornado-ravaged community, they found thousands of volunteers ready and waiting to assist.

Among those volunteers Thursday night, were Fulton mother-and-daughter team Linda and Whitney Davis.

The Davises spent 8 p.m. Thursday until 2 a.m. Friday working on various projects on the Extreme Makeover sites, returning home to Fulton in time for a full workday on Friday - Linda Davis as a professor of management systems at William Woods University, and Whitney Davis as a kindergarten teacher at Bush Elementary School. Despite the long hours of work and dearth of sleep caused by the working field trip were well worth it.

To help the tornado-stricken people of Dumas and surroundings, donations can be made to the Delta Area Disaster Relief Fund, care of the Delta Area Community Foundation, P.O. Box 894, Dumas, AR, 71639, or through the Arkansas Community Foundation, 700 S. Rock St., Little Rock, AR, 72202.
