Time gets away from No. 9 Bulldogs

TIPTON - The South Callaway Bulldogs were so achingly close.

South Callaway led Tipton for most of Friday night's highly anticipated clash between unbeaten, state-ranked teams, but found itself down by six points late in the game. The Bulldogs, though, had the ball at the Cardinals' 2-yard line with 18.7 seconds to play, an opportunity within reach to topple Tipton's 55-game, regular-season winning streak.

After both teams called their final timeouts back-to-back, South Callaway senior quarterback Konrad Kemper was smothered for no gain on second down. As the clock wound toward zero, the Bulldogs frantically were able to run a play with six-tenths of a second left but were called for illegal procedure.

Backed up to the Cardinals' 7, South Callaway had one last shot at taking down Tipton. However, after the officials placed the ball and started the clock, the Bulldogs were unable to get off a snap before time expired.

Tipton 26, South Callaway 20.
