Bulldogs throttle Hornets in second half for Highway 54 rout

MEXICO - Fulton Hornets head football coach Pat Kelley liked what was happening.

The Hornets were down 13-6 to the rival Mexico Bulldogs at halftime, but Kelley asked his team to concentrate less on the result and more on the way it showed up in the first 24 minutes.

"I told them that regardless of the score, we played our best first half of the season, especially defensively," Kelley said. "And we talked about needing that exact same kind of intensity in the second half, but the same things that doomed us all year happened again."

The Bulldogs ran off 34 second-half points and averaged 12 yards a carry after halftime in humbling the Hornets 47-6 in Friday night's Highway 54 rivalry game. Fulton fell to 1-6 overall and 1-5 in North Central Missouri Conference play as it lost to Mexico for a third straight game.
