North Callaway bested by Mexico to end regular season

MEXICO - The Ladybirds dropped their final pre-district game, an 8-5 loss to Mexico on Monday night. The defeat dropped North Callaway to 10-13 on the season while Mexico ends the regular season with a school record 20 wins.

Sophomore pitcher Jaida Gray's record dropped to 10-9 on the season pitching five innings. She surrendered all eight Mexico runs, though only two were earned.

Sophomore center fielder Elaine Brinker went 3-for-4 with an RBI and three stolen bases and senior infielder Sarah LaPlante was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI.

"They had their chances to win it but they just didn't make the plays when they needed it," assistant coach Jack Peace. "..When you battle a team that won that many games you can that out of a loss."

Gray took the hill in North Callaway's first two games of the Bowling Green Tournament on Saturday. She was hit with the loss in the Ladybirds 9-8 eight inning loss to Silex in the first game, going the distance and giving up nine runs - six earned - on 11 hits.

Gray was 2-for-4 with three RBI while sophomore catcher Kelsey Coil and sophomore Maddie Sorell each went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
