Celebrating compromise

The Kingdom of Callaway Historical Society hosted a celebration in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the infamous Kingdom Compromise Friday. The event included the unveiling of a special window display including a scale model of the Jefferson Jones (who negotiated the agreement with the federal troops) house by Larry Langwell and a declaration from the Callaway County Commission, as well as a procession by the Elijah Gates Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans color guard. Participating color guard members included Wayne Sampson of Mexico, Richard Houf of Fulton, Kevin Wenzel of Vandalia, Banning Fitzpatrick of Fulton, Roy Barham of Fulton, Gabe Weaver of Fulton, John Burgher of Auxvasse and Jack Chance with the Searcy Camp of SOCV, of Columbia.
