James feeling "honored' about Hall of Fame induction

Fulton resident Charlie James was honored and all when he and his former teammates from the 1964 World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals were inducted into the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame.

James just wondered what the delay was in getting them in there. As it turned out, the hall is still a pretty new concept.

"I wondered why it took so long to honor them since (the championship) was 47 years ago," James said during a phone interview last week. "After I got the chance to talk with the people at the hall of fame, I found out it's their third year of existence."

James and the 16 living members from that world championship team received the St. Louis Award and were inducted into the Hall of Fame during a Nov. 16 ceremony. James spent five of his six major league seasons as a part-time outfielder with the Redbirds.
