Senior Center in need of volunteers to deliver meals

Each week, the Callaway Senior Center provides meals to approximately 60 local homebound seniors.

Now the center is looking for volunteers to help with that mission.

Administrator Amanda Young said the program - sponsored by the Central Missouri Area Agency on Aging - currently is in need of volunteers to help with a route in Fulton that serves 10 seniors.

"Basically we need them to come in and deliver meals two days a month," Young said, noting those deliveries include seven frozen meals for the week, one gallon of milk, 14 slices of bread and a dessert item for each day. The meals are prepared in advance by another company.

Young said the brief time commitment required of volunteers has a big impact for the seniors they are serving.

"Most of these people are stuck at home by themselves - they love these visits," she said. "If you can stop and talk for five minutes, that makes their day. It makes your day too."
