Tax bills to be mailed Monday by Callaway County Collector

Notices of 2011 Callaway County real estate and property taxes will be mailed Monday, Callaway County Collector Pam J. Oestreich said Friday.

Oestreich asked taxpayers receiving their real estate and property tax bills to check them for any errors. If an error is found, the assessor's office at the Callaway County courthouse can be contacted in person or by calling the office at 573-642-0766.

Oestreich said any corrections should be made before tax bills are paid.

To avoid paying interest and penalties, all real property and personal property taxes must be paid before or by midnight of Dec. 31, 2011, or the mailed envelope containing a payment check must be postmarked by the U.S. Postal Service on or before Dec. 31, 2011.

Oestreich said the Fulton Post Office will close at noon on Saturday, Dec. 31. Any payments dropped in the Fulton Post Office main mailbox after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 31, will be postmarked in January.

Oestreich said any letter with tax bill payments postmarked next year or thereafter will be returned for penalty and interest.
